What it is
Selective androgen receptor modulators are androgen-receptor ligands developed to seek tissue-selective anabolic effects. “Selective” does not mean side-effect free, and the degree of tissue selectivity seen in animals does not necessarily translate cleanly to humans.
Research
Clinical development across the SARM class has focused on conditions such as muscle wasting, sarcopenia, and selected cancers. Some candidates increased lean mass in trials, but functional benefits have been inconsistent and no conclusion about recreational safety follows from short controlled studies.
Safety
Human reports and trials have documented concerns including liver-enzyme elevations or drug-induced liver injury, adverse lipid changes, suppression of endogenous sex-hormone signaling, and other compound-specific adverse events. Long-term recreational exposure remains poorly characterized.
Regulatory and product-quality issues
FDA states that SARMs marketed to consumers are unapproved drugs rather than legal dietary supplements. Products sold online may be mislabeled, substituted, or contain undeclared active ingredients.
